  • A look back at 2011

First day back at work in 2012 and in the absence of a major shoot landing on my lap in the first week of January, I thought I’d take the opportunity to take stock of the last year!

2011 started with a bang as I had two of my biggest commissions to date in January. The first was the merchandise shoot for McLaren, shooting Lewis Hamilton and Jensen Button over 2 days at McLaren HQ.

    (he doesn’t look very impressed)

The McLaren shoot was closely followed by a commission form the National Portrait Gallery to photograph Sarah Doukas, founder of Storm Models. In the end they chose 2 shots from the day, one of which was displayed in April, and one of which is on display now.

2011 was also the year I branched into film, making a few short fashion films and my first music video. I also started to do a lot more editorial work, which was an ambition from the beginning of the year. In 2011 I was commissioned to shoot for…

Disorder (coming soon) and was published in CellarDoor and IDOL.

I made two big moves in 2011, one was to a studio space, Roof Unit where I have a permanent desk and 17 lovely fellow photographers to chat to.

The other big move was appointing an agent Sarah Daw which is the first time I’ve had someone else looking after things, and has been a learning curve.

In September I was featured as one of Rankin’s young photographers to watch as part of his Dig the New Breed exhibition, where they showed some of my menswear shots…

I was also a winner in the advertising category of PDN’s The Look competition.

On a personal note, 2011 was the year I discovered running, celebrated 5 years with Jonathan Gales, got to know two awesome photographers and friends Tasha Alipour Faridani and Tim Bowditch, moved to “the Suburbs” (Brockley, not the suburbs at all) and sadly lost two of my wonderful grandparents Noel and June.

So I’ll end this post with them.

Looking forward to 2012 and whatever it brings…
